Thai Style Hot Herbal Compress

Why have a Thai Style Hot Herbal Compress Massage?

Thai Style Steam Heated Herbal Compress Massage has been practiced by Thai healers for many hundreds of years, the hot herbal compresses along with either the Red (Sensual, ylang ylang, lime, nutmeg) or Green (detoxifying, ginger, lime, peppermint) blended massage oils provide a truly unique experience; that stimulates the senses, whilst the deep penetrating warmth and blended herbs sooth and alleviates muscle tension, aches and pains, and trigger a powerful body purification and detoxification process.

The treatment combines eastern massage techniques with a light pressure patting, rolling, kneading and gentle but deeply effective massage. The heat from the compress carries the herbal essences and the essential oils deep into the skin, underlying tissues and organs. The treatment brings about a deep sensation of comfort and warmth, the compresses are soaked and then steamed to provide a deep penetrating warmth whilst stimulating the body to detoxify and heal itself. The warm herbal compresses are made up of a blend of up to 20 traditional Thai herbs (including turmeric, camphor, tamarind, lemongrass and kaffir lime) renowned for their invigorating, purifying, tension relieving and capacity to improve respiration and soothe general aches and pains.

The Treatment

Before the initial treatment, a full consultation will be conducted in confidence in order that the client’s medical history and lifestyle can be recorded. This will enable the therapist to identify for example any medical reasons or sensitivities to the blended herbs that would make Thai Style Hot Herbal Compress Therapy undesirable and if necessary obtain the client’s GP’s consent. It also enables the therapist to gain information on the client’s past and present state of mental and physical health and to identify any particular needs and expectations of the treatment.

Thai Style Hot Herbal Compress therapy is a deep relaxation and detoxification therapy, based on the tradition healing practices of the ancient Thai healers, a treatment lasts in the region of one and a quarter to one and a half hours, you should rest for a period of about one hour following the treatment to allow the body to assimilate the herbal essences and to allow the detoxification process to begin, you are advised to drink plenty of fluid (water!) to allow the removal of the toxins and waste products from the body.

Following a Thai Style treatment you should rest for a minimum period of 30 minutes to an hour, you should drink plenty of water ideally 1.5 to 2 litres during the rest of the day following the treatment. There may be some reddening of the skin, this is a perfectly normal reaction to increased blood flow in the skin, an increase in urination is also perfectly normal as the body is releasing toxins that require to be discharged.
